POLLOCK in Avignon | Fabrice Melquiot, Paul Desveaux, Jim Fletcher & Michelle Stern

Written by Fabrice Melquiot and directed by Paul Desveaux, Pollock is being revived at La Manufacture, Avignon, from July 6 to 13, 2020, with Jim Fletcher and Michelle Stern.

In the play Pollock, acclaimed French playwright Fabrice Melquiot highlights how it is impossible to fully understand the brilliance and madness of Jackson Pollock without studying his marriage to artist Lee Krasner. Pollock translated into English by Kenneth Casler & Miriam Heard, explores the charged empty space between Pollock (performed by Jim Fletcher) and Krasner (performed by Michelle Stern); between his genius and her spirit; between the inhibitions of the former and the frustrations of the latter.

A production of Compagnie L’héliotrope, Pollock premiered in February 15, 2018, at Abrons Arts Center, New York, and ran for nine sold out performances. It was revived in January 2019 also at Abrons Arts Center and then went on tour.

“The production is tactile, kinetic, carnal, but its world is interior, dark and seductive, from the moment Pollock opens with a singsong quasi nursery rhyme, standing downstage at a microphone like the host in an unseen lounge.” by Laura Collins-Hugues, The New York Times – February 19, 2018.

In English with French Surtitles - Running time: 75 minutes
